I have a Norstat MICS with a PRI. Currently, the teleco is sending 5 DNI digits and the Norstar is programmed to recieve 5 digits.

Some new numbers that are being ported to my PRI end in 9XXXX. Becuase 9 is my outdial code, I can't program the switch to handle DNI numbers beginning with 9. I would like to increase the number of digits that I am recieveing in order to accomodate these new numbers.

I know how to program the Norstar for this. If my telco starts sending more digits (8 digits, for instance) before I reprogram the Norstar, how will the Norstar (currently programmed for 5 digits) handle the calls? Will it only look at the last 5 digits, or will it fail to associate the calls with their intended target lines?

chg length to 4 or
change new DID range
Or
change access to a unused digit "8,7,"

I need to receive atleast 4 digits to disambiguate between recieved numbers (I receive numbers ending in 9200 as well as 1200). I can't receive 4 digits because of the 9XXX numbers. I can't change my DID range; the numbers are published.

I will not change the access code because everyone is used to 9. I will reprogram the Norstar to accept 8 digits. But, this will take some time. I would like to minimize downtime.

This is what I am going to do:
1. Tell telco to start sending 8 digits.
2. Once telco confirms that they are sending 8 digits, wait until after hours to reprogram switch for 8 digits.
3. Tell telco to port new numbers.

My question is: Between the time when the telco confirms that they are sending 8 digits and the time when I complete the Norstar reprogramming for 8 digits, how does the Norstar process the 8 digit DNI numbers that it recieves?

It will look at the first 5. Also 7 for norstar is the max recived digits.

Schedule for an after hours conversion, and make sure you've got good did programming notes beforehand.

There's no easy way. Once you change rec digits, you're going to have to reprogram all the target lines. I've had to do it myself.

Good luck.
