thread799-985624
Much like this closed thread I have a Norstar MICS phone system at a clients office and I'm trying to set up a remote extension using the 7316E phone. I was advised to use two 1102's but once I placed the order the 1102's where no longer available so I was sent two 4102's (the replacement for the 1102 ?).... I was unable to find any documentation beyond the brochure touting the fact that you can connect two end points for a remote extension of a PBX. After looking over the Media5corp site the only thing close was a document on how to connect a 1202 and a 4104 for a remote extension of a PBX... I purchased a 1202, followed the document to the letter (3 or 4 times) and cannot get the phone to connect to the Norstar MICS... I am also having a hell of a time finding anyone else who has done, attempted or even thought of doing this. I have both units on public IP addresses with all of the ports open. My only clue is from the sound of the dial tone, the internal dial tone sounds different than the normal dial tone that I can get from the 4102 with a standard one line phone ?!. Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated..

Are you sure those devices extend Norstar digital signals and not just analog?.
If analog then you need an analog set as remote end and ATA at system end.

I am not aware anyone other than MCK supply Norstar Digital Extenders:

I don't have a lot of experence with either this phone system or the FXO & FXS units, so please bare with me - and thank you.. I contacted jason barren @ telephonemagic.com, told him exactly what I had (The Norstar MICS & the T7316E) and what I wanted to do with it (create a remote extension). As I mentioned, he recommened using two end points together - which I could find no Documention on, I ordered the 1202 so that I could follow the document I've linked in with this reply. Per the document, I have one of the Norstar phone extension line (ext 236 when plugged in to the T7316E at the office) plugged into port 1 on the 1202 & I'm on my network with the 4102 both units are on routable IP's (static public) with the ports open on my firewall & the IP for the 1202 is in the DMZ at the office.. So, all I can tell you is that - this is what I've been sold & told will work. Thank you very much for your reply & interest...

If you look at page 3 it is designed for analog stations.

MCK is the only one that I have know and researched that will work on digital sets, they have to brake down the B1 & B2 of the digital port and re-create them at the far end.

Yea, with as much work as I've done on this - that's exactly what I was afraid of.. I've been looking over the site and can someone please make a recommendation on the most cost effective way to drop in a single remote extension - with the ability to add a second completely different location remote extension down the road. The gateway's that you need the Amphenol cable & wall block seem like a little over-kill ?!.. Thanks very much for the help...

Looks like 1 extender 4000 for each remote user and 1 IP6000 for system side.
Best to call them direct for more info and best setup.

Keep in mind the cost vs getting a new IP Phone system which is the best solution.

Another option is putting in a small IP phone system bring in the ATA as lines to the system and deploying IP phones or softphones of site that way they could call internally and have access to the lines of the Mics.

Just an update. I've completed the extension of the Norstar MCIS to a remote office extension by using the Citel 4100 series - two port gateway and remote extension. Other than using two cables that came with the gateway to go from RJ45 on the units to RJ11's on the phone & PBX, which btw you shouldn't do because - these cables are not included in the "what's in the box" part of the users manual and I don't know what they are for but they are not wired properly to act as an RJ45 to RJ11 adapter, throw them out & make your own cables and this solution works perfectly..

I actually did it on the cheap, by using a E-4100-RUC for the remote an a E-4100G-SUC02 for the Gateway. I have the 2nd port on the Gateway disabled for now. The client has plans to add a second extended extension (I guess that's what I call this) and I can use that port to extend to another E-4100-RUC (This one omits the extra FXO port for emergency use when the network is down, and is like $50 cheaper).... The remote does have a PC port, so you can plug in your pc for network access to the office. It also has a comm port for hyperterminal access. All of the interfaces are real easy to use, I think the web interface isn't as good as using hyperterminal or telnet, but real quality products & the performance is "off the hook"...
