Norstar MICS 7.0 and Adtran Atlas 550 1

I'm trying to use an Atlas 550 to split off some DIDs to a fax server with analog ports. Actually, that's the part that working fine. Great, really.

The trouble is, I cannot get the second T1 port on the Atlas to connect with the T1 port on my MICS.

I believe PTerrell had some success with this as state in thread799-543163, so I'm hoping someone can help me with this.

Any suggestions?

How do you have it set and what is happening now?

I have 2 T1/PRI cards and an FXS Card. Net1 is the PRI coming in from the telco. Net2 goes to the MICS. FXS goes to my fax server. Net2 interface config is attached/linked in my original post.

I have the FXS card set to accept numbers 278-1XXX and pass the DID digits to my fax server. When everything is hooked up, this works great. Faxes are routed to users based on the number dialed.

I'm using a cross-over cable from Net2 to the DTI on the MICS. Basically, as far as I can tell, neither the MICS nor the Atlas 550 are detecting the connection. I've tried it with a straight-through cable as well. I've also tried making a custom crossover cable based on the pin-out settings for both the DTI card and the Atlas 550. I'm wondering if the DTI needs some amount of DC that it's not receiving from the Atlas (and whether the Atlas can provide it)?

Also, if I push the Loopback Test button on the DTI while connected to the Atlas with a straight-through cable, the LEDs on the Atlas for Net2 stop showing Alarm/Error and go to green.

Seems like it would be something simple that I'm just overlooking...

If you connect the MICS to the Telco circuit does it work then? I'm trying to locate a Tech that I know that installed one about a year ago but so far no luck.

Yes. I don't have a test system to try this on, so I test it in the early AM and late PM. Currently (i.e. during business hours) the PRI from the telco is plugged directly into the MICS.

I just got off the phone with Adtran support. They seem to think it should be a straight through cable, not a crossover between the two; but he has no knowledge of the Nortel system, so he couldn't be sure. Either way, I've tried both. He gave me another custom pinout to try, which will have to wait until early tomorrow morning.

As another note, I've also checked the hardware settings on the MICS side, just to make sure they lined up with the config on the Atlas. They do. I've also swapped out the Atlas T1/PRI cards as well, just in case. Both are good.

I have a few setup the exact same way with adtran 550, Castelle Fax Server, and MICS. It has to be a T-1 Crossover cable. It is not a straight thru, not a regular crossover like you would use for direct PC access to a device. This is pins 1-4 and 2-5, 4-1 and 5-2. Try this and it will work!

yea vega is right, sorry I didn't ask that before. I have had some people try it with an ethernet cross over cable which is not the same as a T1 cross over.

That's actually the custom cable I tried last night after looking at the pinout diagrams. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

The protocol in the MICS is set to NI2?

UPDATE:
I just realized that the Nortel pinout diagram was OF COURSE for the jack, NOT the plug. How could I miss that?? I'll remake my cable and test it in the AM. I'll let you know what happens, though I'm guessing it'll work!
