we have a Norstar compact-plus ics and from my understanding, it is supposed to have a built in auto attendant... but when i try to activate it with feature *831, it displays denied in admin. this is a small motel that has recently been bought , i am the manager and would like for people to choose 2 for room so , and so on... there are only 7 rooms... but how do i get past deny in admin.. i am able to record a custom message and have gone through a lot of the features.. but i am unfamiliar with these systems and need some help.... anyone???

That's right, the Compact ICS has a built-in automated attendant.

The automated attendant must be enabled in programming before you can actually use it:

System Programming > Auto Attendant > Auto Attendant: On

Do you know how to get into programming?

Feature *831 is the feature code to turn on and off System Answer. All System Answer does is answer the call and put it on hold at the attendant set.

For what you want to do, you may want to use Custom Call Routing (CCR) instead. Feature *832 is the feature code to turn on and off CCR.

You can program CCR to meet your specific needs:

System Programming > Auto Attendant > CCR

okay when i feature **266344 then password then system prgrming, then autoattendant.. i get a list that says

attd set:22
launguage
system answer <----- this is set for after 4 rings , fax switch off
ccr
end of list

either way *831 or *832 still gives me "Denied in Admin"

is there something i have to do on the box downstairs? i have been trying everything on the m7310 at the front desk...

Thank you..

Jason

You need to login using the Installer password or the System Coordinator Plus password. The System Coordinator password doesn't show the setting I am talking about.

so, okay first do i use **266344? or should i be using a different feature.. then it seems that any time i try to use any different password other than the one i use it doesnt let me in at all... just shows retry.. is there a way to reset the passwords back to default if the installer more than 20 years ago had set some different one?

i need help to login to this area.

Feature **266344 is the correct feature code to log into programming.

You can log into programming using one of the three following passwords:
[ul]
[li]Installer[/li]
[li]System Coordinator Plus[/li]
[li]System Coordinator[/li]
[/ul]

The Installer password gives access to all settings.
The System Coordinator Plus password gives access to a subset of the settings.
The System Coordinator password, the one you are using, gives access to a few settings only.

Sure. Have a look at FAQ799-3014.

yikes, not an easy procedure.. and config doesnt work for a password, nor does any other number i push in,, what about the port on the ics downstairs.. any way i can get in using that... looks like network port but only has 6 wires inside

You only have 2 choices here, 1 is to use the debug method and 2 is to short the battery out inside the cabinet. If you short the battery you will have to reprogram the system from scratch.

yes and because i dont know how to do that.. i gues try debug... on second thought redoing whole system might not be that hard...might even prove easier than debug... theres only 7 rooms in the motel...and one of them is manager with same phone as office two lines coming in from telco (shaw)..

guess i have LOTS of reading.. unless theres a compressed (short) version on how to setup 7 extensions with 2 lines coming in....

Seriously is it hard to redo the whole thing?.. all the wires are there its working now minus most of the functions we want.. anyone in the Thunder Bay, ON Canada area that would want to do this? or perhaps someone can take some time to explain?

You seem already comfortable changing settings using programming, so I wouldn't say that it's hard.

The question you should ask yourself is how well do you know how the various features interact with one another. It will help you decide whether you should try to reprogram the system yourself or bring a tech in to help you. For example, if you are using the automated attendant, you will need to enable disconnect supervision on the lines. If you are using hunt groups, you will have to remove line assignments. If you are using destination codes, you will have to avoid numbering conflicts.

You already told us that you have 2 lines and 7 sets in a motel environment. In addition to the lines and the sets, you will probably have to program restrictions and hospitality services. You could estimate 1 hour to reprogram your system, if you know what you are doing. Otherwise, it might be longer.

If you decide to take care of it yourself, make sure to avoid peek hours.

I think you should try to recover the password first. It will be easier if you have the exact version of the system you are running. The version is printed on the label of the software cartridge. The software cartridge is about the size of a credit card and it is inserted into the ICS. You shouldn't have to remove the cartridge to see the label.

Send me an email for Canada, I know where they all hide.
