Hello everybody and help please !!!

We have a Norstar CCU and 6 phones (M7310). We had a leak and the power supply fizzed and generally broke. I have got hold of a new CCU which is identical to the old one which is good news. I tried using the new box just by reconnecting the wires as they were and got some rather strange results on the telephones - i assume this is due to the memory card that slots into the unit being programmed differently from the original. Also the new unit had two of the large grey slide in circuit boards where our original just had one. With the new unit i could get one outside line rather than two and other things were a bit different too.

I thought that i would take a risk and just use the power PCB from the new unit and put it in our old unit so that everything else was identical. This worked in so far that the system powers up and appears to be stable.

However, the handsets now behave very strangely indeed. I have done a key enquiry and the lines 1 to 4 are set to 'Line Pool A', 'Conference', 'Call forward' and 'Group Pickup' respectively. Something seems to have reset as i get this situation using the new and the old system - i cannot get back to one line working or anything else.

I have got my two telephone lines in the connectors labelled RX201 and TX202 which is how they were before the incident, but i don't know how to progress.

Should i consider a factory reset? If so how do a factory rest my handsets? At the moment, because the keys on the handsets are all over the place, i can't follow the programming guide as everything behaves peculiarly.

As you can see i need some grass roots help if anybody is willing!

Thanks in advance.

This is REALLY a "call a tech" moment. It sounds like you're going to have to default the system and reprogram, and given your description of what's been done so far, I think it's fair to say that you're probably not up to the task.

I suspect you are right, but just for good measure - can anybody tell me how to factory reset the unit just as a first step. All i want to do is get the telephones to try to access line one when you press the line 1 button rather than attempting to 'line pool 1'.

Thanks

Thanks for that. so i pull the plug, then presumably plug it back in - press ** and spell out the word startup on the phone. This works, thus far, but it says password on the screen and the only button that does anything is the 'Rls' key. i.e. I can't enter a password as far as i can tell.

Thanks

Hi all,

I have sorted out the problem so i thought i would post the answer for anybody else who has the same issue. (Reading some of the other posts and seeing how knowledgeable some people must be I am a bit surprised that nobody spotted my symptoms. Maybe i wrote it in an unconventional way or something.)

If you have a new or replacement system that you need to configure for the first time you need to do the following.

plug it in, (within 15 mins) press feature then '**' then spell out 'startup'. You then need to put one of the passwords in but i am not sure which. Then choose 'YES' for Reset memory?, then change the template to 'Square' on the next screen. Then press the forward arrow on the other screen and it loads the template.

This is the setting for my config anyway. Basically if you install a new system and the line buttons on the phones are preset to 'Line Pool' and 'Conference' and basically behaving strangely rather than aquiring an outside line, the reason is that the template used is the default which is 'PBX' and you need to change it to 'squared'.

By the way I am based in the UK and this may be unique to our type of lines or something. we have two lines on the same number and wire in to the two analogue points connectors on the connector board.

Hope this helps somebody.
