can anyone tell me where i can find a set of instructions for programming a norstar, maybe like a tree diagram of all the commands that i can execute through the sets? and what they mean? or at least point me in the right direction, or a search field that i can look up in Nortel?

thanks!

Please don't take this the wrong way......your basically asking how to become a telecom tech. First off learnt he system you have access to. Find out what model it is and then the software revision. Each system is similar is some respects but very different in others. Nortel changed over the years the places that you would program one feature is in fact under a different menu/tree when the "great menu" change from DR to ICS happened.

Once you figure that out, get a hold of a manual for that system. They are out there on the internet for free or buy one.

Then come back and refer to
This will tell you a lot.

Best of luck learning. However, don't learn on your work system if other people use it, I am sure you can understand why.

The best system to learn first is a 308 DR 5, then a CICS 4.1 or better. This will give you a core understanding of the various menu's and differences.

Another way to go about this is to call your vendor. Most will be happy to come out and train you as far as you want to go. It's money well spent if you want to maintain your own system.

Don't expect to learn everything there is to know about it in one session, but a trained technician can tailor your training to your specific use. (There's no need to learn about PRI and Target lines if you're only using POTS.)
