Hi everybody,

Can anyone help with a workaround for this message:

"Microsoft Word cannot save this file at this time because it is open elsewhere"

This happens when Outlook is open and Word is started at the same time (both are 2003 versions).

The Options checkbox for 'prompt to save normal template' is not selected in Word.

The Norton antivirus Office Plug In is disabled.

Outlook is using Word as its email editor.

The above error message is followed by a succession of other messages including a Save As Message Box. It takes a good five clicks on cancel buttons to get to use word in the end.

Any sugegstioins are most appreciated.

Thanks,

MCAUK

I'm using Outlook 2K but it should be too different. Can you check the following.

in Outlook go to your [Tools]..[Options] menu
under the [mail format] tab what settings are shown for the stationery templates?

It has these two options chacked (selected)

Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages
Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to Reat Rich Text e-mail messages

Cheers, MCAUK

I'm clucthing at straws here but deselect these two options, it feels like Outlook is using the Word Normal template for the format of the document, and if you have word open then the normal template is in use thus creating a block to any one else.

I assume this error "only" occurs when you have both app open?

Try the above otherwise, I hate to say, not sure about this one.

Cheers
