I have been using Word almost daily since 1984, but I've run into a new problem.

When I launch a New document, it comes in with the first paragraph mark at the very top of the page. That paragraph is formatted with 0 pt Before and After. This does not match the Normal.dot, and it's not what I want.

I can't figure out how to correct this, and I don't know how it got that way. However, something happened along the way to cause this; it wasn't always this way.

I forgot to say that the problem is not in the page setup. My top margin is set to 1".

I don't see how that is possible...except, is it possible to have turned White Space off? Move your cursor to the top of the page until it looks like a double arrow (one arrow UP, one arrow DOWN). You should also get the "Hide White Space" tooltip. Click.

This shows (or hides) the white space of the margins.

Now if you are saying the format of Normal style - which is likely the style of the paragraph - does NOT match, then that is something else.

There you go. I had hidden the white space by mistake, and I've learned something new. Thanks so much.

You are welcome. That White Space thing has caught a number of people. It is, actually, a handy feature, but it is easy to flip it accidently, and not know about it.
