IF we query the PBX to see a phone that is not programmed, can we see the phone? Can we put the phone in some state that makes it non-operational that allows us to see it? Can the PBX see the MAC address when phone is not programmed? if we can how do we do it?

thanks...

If it has an IP address, it can be pinged & "seen" via many tcp/ip functions (like umap or SNMP - if it is administered).
If it does not have an IP address, I think MAC addresses are only useful within the same sub-net.

He wants to be able to see the phone through the PBX. Thats not going to happen unless the phone is configured and register (for IP phones).

Yes you can ping the phone (if you know the IP address) from the PBX but that doesn't help unless you simply trying to verify connectivity.

The MAC address will only be usefull on the network segment the phone is on and only then to network devices or endpoints. There isn't a command in CM that will let you search/look for a MAC address for a phone. If the phone was configured and registered you could stat the station and get the MAC address but I suspect you already have the MAC and want something else.

What is it you're trying to accomplish?
