How do you configure a non-NDMP NAS Backup using Networker 7.3.2?

I currently am doing NDMP on an older system, but want to just back the CIFS/NFS filesystems up like regular servers.

Anyone know how?

Simply add the option "-M" to your nsrndmp_save command.

Of yourse you also have to adjust the storage node list for this client.

Ok, for the command I entered

nsrndmp_save -M dump

and I tried without the dump option.

I'm getting failure that says "Probe job had unrecoverable failure(s)" of which I've gotten all throughout 7.3.2 implentation.

the CIFS share is in DNS both forward and reverse and this backup works on a 7.2.1 Legato system.

Any more help?

Probe refers to the savefs command which can not be executed on the filer. Please run the nsradmin command and print your client's settings.

Ok, here is my output

Help me again instructor!

What type of filer is this? - it does not look like a NDMP filer. You also do not login (remote user/passwd).

This is not a NetApp filer

THis is an EMC Celerra (NAS) NS700. IT provides NFS/CIFS shares just like any other filer I've worked with.

On the old system, we have to have an NDMP license (expensive), dedicated drives configured as NDMP (Single threaded), etc.

With Networker 7.2 and above, I thought you could back up your NAS just like any other filesystem.

The difference with NW 7.2 is the Data Service Agent. It 'translates' the NDMP data into a format which is understood by nsrmmd processes. The result is that you can save it to a non-NDMP device. You activate DSA by using the "-M" option for nsrndmp_save.

However, with respect to the NDMP client, all other rules still apply. On the other hand, if you use NDMP version 3 and up, you can use "All" for the save set definition.

More details are listed in the Admin Guide.

If you want to backup the celerra without a ndmp option try the following:
Assuming you have an Windows 2000 or 2003 Client, you enable dfs on this client.
Integrate your Cifs Shares of the celerra in the dfs.
The you backup your Windows client using the correct save sets :

if your dfs entrypoint is : N:\dfsroot\clsh1
that is your saveset N:\ or N:\dfsroot will not work.
