The records from the Access database that contain non-Latin characters (Cyrillics) are NOT displayed properly in the browser. I tested the page over PWS.

1. My browser is properly configured to display Cyrillics
2. I can see Cyrillic characters inside the MS Access environment.

So it looks it's the configuration of the Web server that is not correct. Anyone had a problem like this before? Thank you very much in advance! :)

Of course, setting the charset is not a problem, because the output is not the "screwed up" characters, but just question marks which implies that the character encoding is already lost before it reaches the Web server.

In any case I solved the problem. It was the problem with Access'2000 (and all other Office'2000 applications). They use Unicode, and what's more the use "Unicode Compression" and that's what causes all the question marks instead of Cyrillic characters.

What I had to do was to convert it to Access 97 version (Tools/Database Utilites/Convert
Database/To prior Access Database version) and in the text and memo fields I put "no" for all "memo" and "text" fields.

I am posting just in case if someone will have a similar problem in the future.

Regards,
Rydel :)

Sorry,

The following sentence
I put "no" for all "memo" and "text" fields

should be as follows
I put "no" for "Unicode compression" in all "memo" and "text" fields

cool. i knew about convertin to access'97 trick, but i never realized that switching off unicode compression has anything to do with it.
