I'm looking to add disks to a CX300 array. The vendors that sell the drives say I cannot use non-EMC branded drives because of firmware issues. Is there a way to update the firware on a bare drive? You see where I am going. I don't want to pay through the nose for just the name of a drive.

Any help is much appreciated.

Its more than just firmware.
Its Mode Pages too.
And Voltage. CX drives are 12V only.

Dont even think about trying to take a generic
to a Clariion CX.

Suggest shopping for some used drives.
They are available for resonable $$.
73`s & 146`s.

A customer of us, (we are not EMC) did it. He used the cage of the clariion drives to put his own drives. These drives was crashing one by one. He has changed 10 bad drives in 1 week...... I don´t know what have this drives but the "normal" drives can't work fine under clariion...

Finally he bought EMC drives.
