Nokia data suite version 3.0a

I am having trouble connecting my Nokia 5110 phone to my windows 2000 service pack 2 machine. When I install the data suite v3.0a it allocates a virtual com port number 4. Even when I choose the port manually for Com 1 it will still not connect to the phone.
Any help would be great
