Just finished building a PC in which I installed the SoundBlaster Live value card. Problem is, whenever a game is loaded up (usually MS Flight Sim 2000), the sound is "crackly" (for lack of a better term. Full of pops. This problem does not occur if I simply put a music CD in the CD-ROM. The system is based on an AMD 500MHz with 64Mb PC100 RAM and Win98-2.

Thanks

Have you tried moving your SBLive! further down the PCI slots.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
Experienced in , or have messed with : VC++, Borland C++ Builder, VJ++6(starting),VB-Dos, VB1 thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, Borland C++ 3(DOS), Borland C++ 4.5, HTML, ASP(somewhat), QBasic(least i didnt start with COBOL)

I have basically the same problem with my embedded sound when I run Windows 2000 on my PC. Like you mention, sound is all crackly and broken up. When I reboot and go into Win95, the MP3 and Wav files sound great. Must be something to do with the Win2K sound drivers. Have you checked the Creative web site for the latest drivers and installed them?
Good luck
Ian Cowie
ianco@email.com

"If you see something THIS big, with eight legs, coming your way, let me know. Anyhow, how can I help you, eh?

All good suggestions. I'll have to check. I built this system for a buddy so I don;t have ready access to it. Someone also mentioned that it may be related to memory as it seems to happen in Flight Sim when the screen is redrawn or the weather is intense. I don't get it cause there's a 32Mb NVidia video card in there and 64 Mb sounds like it should be enough.

Yves

Make sure the Sound card and another I/O device on your system aren't sharing the same IRQ's. It sounds are though it may be doing this, which would attribute to the crackling sounds. Try moving the sound card to a different slot after removing if from the system devices. Alos try booting the system in "SAFE" mode and again checking the system devices. Many times duplication of devices will occur either by installing and removing different components. Windows 98 also has a nasty habit of duplicating devices during the installation of itself. If it were me and my system I would boot in the "SAFE" mode and remove any reference to the sound card within the systems devices. Shutdown the PC and then move the sound card to a different slot. Reboot and then have Win98 find it again, and install the drivers once again.

See my thread on "Audio Crackling".

I had the same problem with virtually the same system and I fixed it!

Good luck!
