NODE LOCKED LICENSING on BCM for I2050 - Has anyone done this?

I am banging my head against the wall trying to make this work! Major Documentation FAIL - surprise!

BCM450 R5
i2050 R4 Softphone
I cannot set up a licensing server on the network so I would like to use the Node Locked licensing method to apply a license to a single 2050.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone have any guidance??

That is BY FAR the worst thing I have heard ALL day.
Do you know I can use V3 and run the licensing server on the same PC as the softphone?

This Avaya document shows that it is supported:
Recommendations:

"Avaya recommends an upgrade to this Avaya 2050 IP Softphone for Windows PC Release 4.0 at the earliest opportunity.
This software release is compatible with the Avaya Call Servers listed below.
Avaya BCM 50 Release 3.0, 5.0, 6.0
Avaya BCM 450 Release 1.0, 5.0, 6.0
Avaya CS1000: Release 5.5, 6.0, 7.0
Avaya CS2100: CICM 10.1 MR2 on Release SE10, SE11 and SE13



That said, does anyone have any idea how to get the license into the softphone for the Node Locked option?

Have you got, or do you want the V2 softphone software. As stated above, it works fine on BCM (and Succession) for XP and I think 2000, 2003 and 7 etc.

Version 2 software doesn't need any licensing, which is handy for us techs when visiting customers or testing via a LAN etc.

I did have it, but for the life of me I can't find a copy. I've been banging around in old BCMs here, but none of them seem to be "old" enough! That would be my saving grace!

Not sure if this will be helpful or not but when V4 first came out, I think this issue was going to be addressed within KRS. I believe they were trying to set it up so when you generated your V4 licenses, you would have to select what type of licenses you wanted and Node Locked was supposed to be one of the choices.

I haven't had to do it personally so I don't know if they got that sorted out yet or not. The point of Node Locked was to eliminate the need for a licensing server. Essentially it "locks" the phone to the mac address of the PC it resides on.

I know I didn't help with how to do it, but I guess it doesn't matter if they haven't sorted out the KRS part yet.

Please let us know if you get it figured out. I'm sure we'll all have to do it pretty soon anyway.

I will definitely let you know! The KRS bit seems to be worked out as it does let you select Node Locked, however, getting it on the 2050 is a whole different story!
Do you have a copy of v2?
I am desperate to get this remote user up with something until I can get the licensing figured out!

I stand corrected.
I found this as well after some more research;

BCM Platforms
? BCM50 Rls. 3.0, 5.0 and 6.0 (Incoming Call Notification and Soft Expansion Module are only
supported on BCM 6.0)
? BCM450 Rls. 1.0, 5.0 and 6.0 (Incoming Call Notification and Soft Expansion Module are
only supported on BCM 6.0)
? 2050 v4 is not supported for BCM200/400 4.0 or earlier

Node-Lock Licensing
With the Node-Lock Licensing, the license for the 2050 v4 client is generated based on the
hardware ID or Media Access Control (MAC) address and includes only the token required for the
specific endpoint. No networked licensing server is used - both License Manager and Licensing
Client are co-located on same endpoint (end user PC). The customer can regenerate a given
license to work on a different PC (e.g. case of PC refresh or PC hardware failure). The node-lock
license files are generated in KRS.
Also, with node-locked licenses, occasional or roaming users who may only have intermittent
connectivity to a license server can continue to use the client beyond the 30-day grace period.
Customers will be able to select which type of license is desired when creating the licenses in the KRS tool.
The order codes for server based and node-lock licensing are the same.

You can find more info in the CS1000 document called IP Phone Fundamentals.
