No wireless access on one machine

Hey all. I have a laptop that can access any network via wireless NIC. For some reason, I cannot connect to my own network from this laptop. I can access my work network wirelessly but when I take it home, I cannot. My roommate can access the home network just fine. Another friend can access the home network with no problem. I've disabled and enabled the NIC, reset the router, and reboot both modem and router. Is there anything I'm missing?

Questions, questions...

Does the wireless software on your laptop detect and show signal strength of the router's WiFi signal? If so, how strong/weak is it?

Is the laptop set for static or dynamic IP Address?

If you're set to dynamic and you type ipconfig /all in a Command Prompt window, is the wireless adaptor being allocated an IP Address?

Does it work if you temporarily link the laptop to the router with an Ethernet cable?

Really weird... Signal is full strength. All bars are visible. Dynamic IP is set. Made sure there are no static IP/DNS settings. The NIC is picking up the correct outside IP from my ISP and displays correctly how it was before this happened. I can hook up an Ethernet cable and access the router just fine. As soon as I take it off, there's no connection. I was told to try to update drivers but haven't had the chance. I've never seen this happen before.

so it worked before?!
since when it stopped working?
something in eventviewer?
some security settings (firewall, router, mac adress filter or ....) might prefent the connection
what os?

If this is a Verizon connection with their equips (Westell router/modem), I would think a firmware update is in order. They seem to be incompatible with some equipment until the firmware is updated.
I had this problem with a friend of mine's network. Updated the firmware and I was rockin in seconds!
Google "Westell firmware wireless" and you should see a number of hits on it.

Lemon13 has some interesting questions for you...

You said, "is picking up the correct outside IP from my ISP". I'd have expected your router to issue an IP Address to the laptop, not your ISP! Sure, your ISP will issue you an IP Address, but the router takes this, and then usually issues, say, 192.168.x.x addresses to your attached PCs assuming DHCP is running.

You said it works if you hook up an Ethernet cable to the router. Does the laptop get a similar IP Address to that issued when you try and work wirelessly? Or is the wireless connection getting something like 169.254.214.89 ? The 169 address is a default, which usually indicates a physical connection to the router, but a DHCP address either hasn't been issued or isn't being picked up.

Is DHCP within the router limited to the number of addresses that it will issue? Do you perhaps need to put in the MAC address for your laptop? Are your room mates using wireless or Ethernet cable connections? You could try turning off the router for 3 or 4 minutes, and then see after it's booted up again if it will issue you with an IP Address...
