I have an old ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard and the 9800pro AGP card I had in it burned out.
So I bought a Chaintech Geforce7600gs AGP card and when I put it in and booted up, there's no video.

The fan on the agp card works, I can here the windows startup music. But the monitor stays black.

The motherboard bios says its set to AGP8X, which is what the card supports. Is there an incompatability issue between the card and the motherboard im not aware of? What else could it be?

I'm pretty sure its not a defective card as I got it from newegg and its the second one they sent me, same issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do u see bootscreen?
did u uninstall the ati drivers?
tried 2 boot in safe mode?

Have you tried the card in another machine?
Does your motherboard have an on-board graphics chip. If so this may need to be disabled in the BIOS.
Are you sure that the card is correctly seated? You may think that it is, but you need to make sure.

if your old video card burned out in the same board, maybe it wasn't the card or maybe not only the card, maybe something happened with the board itself.

I have a 9800 pro also having trouble getting drivers installed on xp pro 32. I thought I could disable windows 9800 drivers, but that does not seem to work after installing ati drivers but that does not work.

Also, check the apeture size for the new graphics card. 9800 pro card had min of 128, so, when you disconnect from vga cable from card and reconnect to mobo vga connection, you may need to reset the apeture to it's lowest setting until you get a new card.
