I recently upgraded my computer from a 1.7 ghz CPU -> 2.8 ghz CPU. When i turned it on, it said that i had to set the settings to 2.8 ghz in the setup. So instead of dealing with all that, i took out the 2.8 ghz CPU and put back my old 1.7 ghz, which i had no problem with before (video working fine and everything)

Now there is no video. I tried taking out the CMOS battery and i also tried adding more thermal paste to the CPU in case it was low? Also, when i do turn on the computer, the monitor goes into sleep mode. Any suggestions on what to do?

Oh and i have a GeForce 4 Ti4600.
Thanks.

Pull the video card, clean the contacts with an eraser, and put back in - making sure it is all the way in. Do you have any "beeps" when booting?

Did you unscrew the motherboard while installing the new CPU? Sometimes if you don't secure the mohterboard properly leads will touch the case and interrupt a circut. This will cause loss of video?

Also, as micker asked, are there any beeps?

If it has an audio(voice) messsage in the post test, Try hooking up your speakers and listening when you turn it on. This may tell you why its failing the post test. I had a processor failing post and got no video because it failed so quickly.

No Guts No Glory. So I try and try again...

hey thanks guys i got it.. turns out that i didnt my cpu was messed up..
