Hi all,

have a client that wants to upgrade 2 of their 3 406 V2's to IP500 V2's. However, they have a third office with another 406 V2 that they do not want to upgrade to IP500 as the site is closing in the not too distant future. Now is the best time for them to upgrade the hardware at the other 2 sites as they have a 1 week shut down in July. Problem is they have SCN between all 3 sites and need to retain this functionality after the upgrade. If memory serves, SCN is only supported between 1 distant release i.e between systems on 8.0 and 7.0 or 5.0 and 6.0 etc. The 3rd 406 is currently on 5.0 and can only go to 6.1. this would be fine as I could put the IP500's on 7.0 and then upgrade them when the 3rd site closes. The problem I have is that the 6.1 upgrade license is no longer available.

Now to the question for you learned folk: Will a 8.0 upgrade license allow an upgrade to 6.1, or will it only allow upgrade to rel 8.0? Have spoken to SS tech this morning and they say they have successfully upgraded a 406 to 6.1 using a rel 8.0 upgrade license but Avaya will not confirm this. I assume I could put the new IP500's on rel6.0 and leave the 406 on rel5 but was wondering if anyone had experience of actually doing the 6.1 upgrade on a 406V2 using a later release upgrade license in the field?

Thanks in advance

we have a few of these in this situation. if your 406 is at 5.0 and above it will SCN with 8.0. we have maybe 5 or 6 like this. most are temporary because they are changing out the 406's and putting in 500's. I have been told the 8.0 license will be fine to upgrade to 6.1. i havent done it myself but hear it works.

Thanks Kevin. Just what I wanted to hear and very prompt as well

As I understand it the upgrade licence sets the Maximum release the system will accept so 8.0 licence should allow all lower releases
