Hi

I recently reinstalled Windows, and today I wanted to copy my system information to send it to Symantec to get a custom .iso file to launch Norton Ghost.

When I clicked on the icon I got a message that said …

Can’t collect information.
Can not access the Windows Management Instrumentation Software.
Windows management files may be moved or missing.

Can anyone tell me how I can correct this?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

What Icon are you clicking on? Have a look at some of these.

Cannot access Windows Management Instrumentation software

Possibly some information here to help.

"Help and Support " Does Not Collect All Hardware Information

WinMgmt could not initialize the core parts: To reinstall wmi into the registry:

Go to Start/Run and type in: CMD, then Winmgmt/? for information. Then run each of these hitting enter after each:

winmgmt/clearadap
winmgmt/kill
winmgmt/unregserver
winmgmt/regserver
winmgmt/resyncperf

Hi Linney

Thanks for the info I'll check out these links.

See how you go. You could also have a look in the Event Viewer and see if there are any other surprises in there.

Hi

I meant to come back and say that I did solve the problem by running another repair install of Windows.

I had to download all my updates again but that's no so bad now that I have a cable connection.

Better yet once I had the info I was able to get a boot CD made for Norton Ghost that worked.

After getting everything set up and updated I backed it all up so I should be fairly safe now.

Thanks for the help

Mike
