Hi,
I turned on my machine and i got a blue screen.
I turned it OFF and ON and the computer paused while running the BIOS, there was no spin and the HD light was on, i went to the BIOS and the HD was erased from the list, no detection - it didn't work after testing it on a different machine..

Any idea of how did it happen? is my info gone? how bad is the problem, will i be able to retrieve the info for cheap? is there a tool that i can use straight from a cd or a floppy that will manage to test the HD?

I use a P4 2.0, the HD is a 'Western Digital' 120GB ATA.

Thanks !

It is a Possibility that your power supply just went bad and took out your hard drive.
Is it a cheap generic (came with standard case) power supply? these don't tend to have spike protection so can cause major damage when they fail.

No, it was my Western Digital, they have problems these days.

I installed a Seagate and everything is ok.

The reason i want to know how bad the problem is, is that i want to send it for data recovery...
