I recently restore my Compaq Pressario 7478 using the restore disk. After a successful restoration, the sound on my computer doesn’t work. So I downloaded the correct driver from driverguide.com. Still I am not getting any sound when I try to play my Audio CDs.

Can someone suggest what I need to do? OR have I missed something.

Are you sure the volume control is set properly. Many times when new programs are loaded they affect the volume control setting. Do you get normal computer system tones?

are u able to play songs stored on your hard disk?

is there a small speaker icon in your system tray?

Make sure that the audio cable did not become disconnected from the cd drive.

Check the hardware devices and see if there is a resource conflict. Is it enabled? Does the system think there is another sound card also?

Try getting the driver from Compaq. They play around with things and sometimes the drivers from Compaq are the only ones that work right.

Some computers do not use the audio cable technique to connect the CD Player to the sound card. Instead the preferred method is Digital!

Go to the sound card properties in the device manager and select digital and see if that works. You may need to reboot. After installing the drivers it may revert back to the default legacy audio connection cable. Some new sound cards do not offer a audio connector any more.
