I am having some troubles with Arcserve 6.61 SP2 on Windows NT4 SP6. I do a full backup everynight and have not had any problems with it until now.

When I tried to restore some data with the restore session method the drive list would not expand to show the directory structure. When I look at the details of the backup it shows the no details flag. I have actually set the job to store full details.

When I try to do a merge i get an error message:

E4114 Unable to add detail record. (EC=7)

I have search these forums but found nothing of help.

Anybody any ideas?

I lied about the Arcserve Version. It is 6.6 Build 795 Workgroup Edition.

What is the size of your "database" folder???
looks like you are running outa space..

you might have to initialize the database...

i'd say you upgrade to ARCserve2000 to avoid furhter DB related issues..

cheers

The database directory is huge. I managed to put a purge job on yesterday but it still does not really help. I still need to get the data off the tape.

Instead of using the restore by session(this uses the Arcserve database) try using restore by backup media. Using this method you NEED to know what session the file\folder is located. Based on your earlier post you know the session number where your files\folders are located. You can then use the include filter to specify the actual files\folders you need restored. Let us know how you make out.

How do you specify a specific directory without doing the whole session. I have tried but I can not get it to work.

When you select restore by backup media, and then select the particular session, you will have to use the filter in order to rectore a particular file\folder. The filter icon looks like a net and is to the right of the options icon. Within filters, select inlude directories, type in the name of the directory you want restored, then click ok. Let us know if you need any more help.

I tried this but it started to restore the whole session.

In the filter I put include directory d:\server_apps\test but it just started to do the whole session.

Do I need to exclude everything else or did I put the filter pattern in wrong.

You do not need to put the drive letter. By using the 'include' filter you are actually excluding EVERYTHING else. I should be able to type in server_apps\test to restore the test folder. I do not think that you need a backslash before server. Let me know how you make out.

All I can say is that you are a star. All it took was no drive letter.

One other query though. Does it restore data to it's original location. It's just I actually told it where to restore then too.

Because you are not using the Arcserve database you NEED to tell Arcserve exactly where to restore the data. I think that by default 'restore to original location' is grayed out. Good luck.
