Hi, anyone have a good idea on how to console into network switches without a serial port on the laptop. Is there any sort of usb to serial? Any thoughts appreciated.

I have a portsmith port replicator that uses a USB connection and has a serial port on it.
Looks like they dont make them any more, might try ebay.

USB to serial is a common need. Several companies make them. Google and you will find what you want. $30 or less.

Thank you all, I am sorry, I should have said usb to serial female...but the link by John817 should get me exactly what I need. Thanks

serial is serial, be it male or female.
if you end up with one and need the other
just get a gender changer.

I ran into a problem where I purchased a belkin USB-Serial adaptor.

No problem to use it for a Norstar RAD direct or PC-PC communications.

It would not work on a Wavetek LT8600- Wavetek support told me the only USB-Serial adaptor they could get to work was a SIIG.

Belkin had no answers of course.
