No "Open" option with attachments

This seems like a silly question, but I can't find out how to get the "open" button when I double-click on an attachment in Outlook 2003. My only options are "Save to Disk" and "Cancel". I'm stumped.

It's not a silly question - but the answer may lie with any Anti-Virus software you are running. Some versions of Symantec and McAfee software actually allows the user to prevent anyone opening attachments, so it may be worth checking your anti-virus set-up.

Alternatively, see if you can save to disk, and then open from there.

This is a "trusted attachements" setting though I do not know where the setting is....

you can set it for specific file extensions that are trusted that outlook will allow through for you to open...

like you can make .bat untrusted.. so you can see that you have an attachment but it would be grayed out so you couldnt open it even if you wanted to.

what you need to run is a registry hack on each individual profile.
1. Copy the following text into notepad

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Security]

"Level1Remove"=".ade;.adp;.asx;.bas;.bat;.cer;.chm;.cmd;.com;.cpl;.crt;.exe;.hlp;.hta;.inf;.ins;.isp;.js;.jse;.lnk;.mdb;.mde;.msc;.msi;.msp;.mst;.pcd;.pif;.prf;.reg;.scf;.scr;.sct;.shb;.shs;.url;.vb;.vbe;.vbs;.wsc;.wsf;.wsh"

2. SAVE IT!!

3. Name it Office 2003 Attachments Reg Hack v6.reg

4. Open up file, a window comes up click yes then on second window click ok.

I appreciate your help, but this registry hack just allows me access to these file types. The problem is that when I try to open them, I only have the option to "save" to disk or "cancel". I'd like my "open" option back. We have other users of 2003 that have the "open" option, but I can't track down the differences between the machines.

I do appreciate the responses, though.
