the pc has no power *was getting occasional power and would run fine for a few restarts, then it would stop powering. it's sporadic. started after a bad t-storm* i've checked all the connections, the power supply, the ram, took out the battery.. i know it could be motherboard or cpu *motherboard had green light on (voltage check/flea power)* is there a tool i can buy to test the mb and cpu? I would rather not buy replacements if its not that. is there something i'm forgetting to check?

Keeping a known working PSU is a no brainer for anyone repairing computers, or even just tinkering with them for fun. However, many people who ask these questions don't often just have an extra one around. So in their case, it's best to verify everything before having to go out and buy a part, and then find out it wasn't the problem after all. [wink]

Got it.... but if you are going to buy a PS tester... please, just buy a PS (or keep an old case around)

DonMc67 - buddy, we've got this one covered. You're late to the party and your responses weren't particularly accurate or insightful.
