I posted this problem a week ago, and since then replaced the motherboard with another new one and still having same problem. (I cant be that unlucky and get 2 faulty m/boards in 1 week!). Anyway my problem is getting no post at start up. This is what I have done so far and it may not be in the right order just hoping somebody has had similar problem and can help. The specs are

P4 motherboard
1.7 ghz Intel cpu
512 mb pc133 ram
ge force 4 video card

I have read the manual, I have tried all the ram slots with good ram, I have reset the cmos settings, all hardware is compatible

Am setting it up outside the case and doing bit by bit. Have tried everything I can think of including another video card that does work, but dont get any picture at all the monitor just stays on standby mode. I have played with all the jumpers. Hope someone can help, and if you read this twice its because Ive posted in a couple of diferent areas as my customer is getteing a bit agro at me. Thanks all.

What motherboard is it? Does it have any DIP switches on it or just jumpers? The video card that you tried before was it a PCI or AGP card? If you have not tried a PCI video card give that a try. Are you sure the processor and RAM chips are seated properlly and fully? When you power it on, does the CPU fan start up or does it start for 1-3 seconds then dies?

Have you gone through this FAQ?
I think he covers it rather well.

The more I learn,I realize how much more there is to know!

Thanks for the FAQ Kimbertech, but still nothing am thinking bad board.

wlpysp no dip switches just jumpers and have tried various combinations. Have tried both pci and agp cards, pci card is working, everything is seated properley and the psu works fine.

As Bill asked, is the fan running or anything else, LEDs?

Are you getting 'beeps' when powering up? If yes, how many, any particular code?

If no, the mb may be shortened out. Have you tried starting with the mb outside the case? Do not put it on the antistatic bag it came in, use ie cardboard. And don't let it touch the case, either.
You probably don't need this reminder, but make sure that you're grounded, too.

You're not alone,

cpu fan is running, psu fan running, no I dont have any led lighting up, have no beeps and no video at all when powering up. Have tried on the desk outside the case and am grounded. Its a new m/board (p4 NB32-sc) 2nd one. first one got sent back. A new g force agp video card, on board sound. Have tried a known good pci video card still no video. Do have the power light and the ram led lights come on on the m/board but not on the case. Anymore suggestions Id appreciate. Thanks

Two faulty mbs in a row sounds unlikely to me, too. Other than contacting the manufacturer's support, I could only think of something gone wrong with the exchange. It sounds like you did it by mail. Is there a chance they sent you back the same board? Yes, that's a wild guess, but after all you've done so far there's hardly anything left. What about the CPU itself?

I'll keep this marked and will be back in case of a better idea,

You still haven't answered what motherboard. Someone may have specific knowledge if you post what it is.

motherboard is

p4 NB32-SC....onboard sound
1.7 ghz intel cpu
Im using pc133 256mb ram

its compatible
and no bought from supplier not through mail. Cant check if it is the cpu as i dont have another board for the cpu to go into.

The only other thing you havent swapped out is the RAM as far as I have read, correct?
I find it highly unlikely that you would get two mainboards bad in a row. You say you have checked the video.

If you have no beeps, ie POST codes, then you have either bad ram or bad power supply, or your motherboard is grounded where it should not be as stated above.
Have you checked here also?

Some quick simple things to check... Kimber

Thanks to all for their advice but it ended up being the motherboard. All works well now.
