hey guys, i have a problem.

a customer of mine is telling me that he is indeed typeing his login and password in the fields but when dailing out it will connect to our servers and not authenticate. error 691 and my box shows that he has "NO PASSWORD" but correct username.

he has XP home and i'm even staying with him on the phone til he goes to connect. does anyone know of a password issue with XP? BTW this is NOT the issue with the win 98 to XP upgrade. also, we are not having RAS problems.

I've not heard of it. Did you make him a new connection?

Leigh

yeah, i tried that first. the thing about it is that it is a brand new computer and they connected fine before today.

Did they change or add anything to the computer? Something they wouldn't think would cause a problem.

thanks guys and gals, but we resolved the issue. here is what i found.

there is another microsoft artical that i finaly found (freakin microsoft.com) that states an issue in which does not give a resolution. they tell you to contact MS for the fix. now how sucky is that? I didn't have the user do so because we decided to run the "system restore" and it worked! (hey, it IS good for something after all.)

the artical is here: (but don't know for sure if it was the issue of discussion)
BTW smah, how do you seem to always find MKBA's? i always have problems searching that damn site!

that particular result came up from a search using:

error 691
all words
All ms products

I almost always change the default setting to 'all words' instead of 'any word' otherwise, you'll get too many results.
