Hi
I always used to access my PIX 506e via Hyperterminal and the serial port with a RJ45 adaptor. (I think this is the standard way.)
Now - after one week or so of not looking at it - I find I do not get any response from Hyerterminal. I just get a cursor and no PIX> prompt.
I have checked the com port and all obvious things (well obvious to me at least).

Any ideas as to what may have happened. (I hope a Windows patch has not changed anything.) I can still log in via a laptop using the same cable - so it it is more inconvenient rather than anything else.)

TIA

Erm....sorry a bit unclear.

I can no longer access the PIX from my SBS 2000 SERVER.

This is less than conveneient ot have to get a laptop, drag it into the comms room and use that to connect.

TIA

You could try removing the connection in hyperterminal and recreating it. Failing that it could be a problem with the port on the server.

Chris.

If the cable and the hyperterminal connection works from the laptop, then the problem lies with the SBS server.

As previously posted, delete the currently saved hyperterminal on the server. I would try downloading and installing the free version of hyperterminal pro from the Hilgreave site.
When you get to the com port settings, just hit the default button at the bottom of the page.

If the server has another COM port (COM2) try using it.

Check the device manager and the COM1 properties for conflicts.

Good Luck

Hi Guys
Thanks for the response.

I always recreate a new session in hyprerterminal, so nice idea but does not help here.

I have tried both Com1 and Com2, I have a spare cable and connector thingy and neither work on the server; but both work on a laptop. Device manager looks fine.

I am very tempted to conclude that the there is something wrong with both Coms port - thoigh for both to go sounds unlikely. If I had a hardware issue I guess it may not show up in device manager?

Thanks

If there was a device conflict it should show up in device manager. Can you remove the the COM ports in device manager and put them back in with a reboot?

Is your PIX configured for telnet or SSH and if so can you access it using one of those from the SBS server?

Try thinking about the last time hyperterminal worked and what has changed on the SBS server since then.

Good luck!
