Hi,

We have four floors/subnets in the office. We are running mixed mode environemnt. We have the following issues:

1. Majority of the users cannot connect to ONE of our servers (Error: No logon server to service the request). Users can ping this server but cannot access/connect to it.

2. users can only view subnet in their floor, before tehy can view all computers connected to the network

We are trying to fix these two problems... we check IP, DNS, WINS setting and everything seems fine...

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Thanks

Did both problems pop up at the same time? If so, it sounds like a DNS problem. Restart your DNS service and/or the server running it. How is your DNS server configured? Do you simply have 4 separate local zones? You might recreate the zone(s) giving you problems.

From which client computers are coming the error (what OS)?
Win9x is using NetBIOS name resolution to find the domain to log on.
Win2k is using DNS for this operation.
Check your DNS configuration. How many servers? Domains? How many DCs? What is the structure of AD? NT domains? etc.
As you see, there are a lot of unknown things in your story. Just a clear view to your network/services can bring results.

Thanks Matt and Gia for responding.

The second problem was resolved... One of the domain admins unintentionally stopped/disabled all the computer browser of each subnet. :(

Regarding clients who cant connect to one of the server, they are running 2000 Prof/NT4 WS.

After almost an hour after we restart all the master browsers and designated the PDC as the domain master browser and made changes on the subnet mask of the affected server, all users were able to connect :)

As of this date the network is working smoothly...
