No internet connection in vmware

Hi,
I'm having VMWare Workstation installed in my windows environment. And the internet connection within VMware was working fine until yesterday when I removed my router & gave direct internet connection to my laptop. When I rebooted the OS, my internet connection within the base OS was fine but I lost the internet connection from all vmware OS.

Can anyone guide me how to get internet connection within VMware when I've direct connection?

My guess would be that your VM guests are set to dhcp and you took the dhcp server out of the loop by bypassing your router and your guests have no ip addresses. But thats just a guess....

Appreciate your response. Your doubt is exactly correct. Thats what I suspect too, but then how do I resolve the issue? I don't want to use router anymore & I'm not expert in DHCP and all these things. Now, the IP within guest starts with 169.
I'll really appreciate if you can tell me the step by step instructions to resolve the issue.

When you set the network adapters up on the guests I am sure you used "Bridged" you need to use "NAT" now.

Would like to add that i think you should keep the router. Never a good idea to put a computer directly on the internet. The router acts as a hardware firewall and really can help protect your inside computers.

Yes, it was earlier set to Bridged network. But when I switch to NAT, do I need to change any IP settings?
Somehow, its not working.

Thanks again for the reply. However, I'm a beginner in Vmware & IP stuff. I know where to change NAT but I'm not sure what IP I need to type in within those settings? Do I need to type the IP, DNS & Default gateway settings of host machine in guest OS? Can you provide step by step instructions?

Im sorry but I have never used the NAT functionality so I cant give you step by step instructions on how to set it up. I thought i provided a couple links that should have gotten you going down the correct road but I dont have time to do all the research for you. I think you are pretty close to getting it done. You dont need to manually address the NAT guest adapters as if you have the NAT service started it provides DHCP for the NAT'ed hosts. Read throught the links I posted and do a google search, you should be able to trial and error your way to success.
