I feel foolish asking this., but...
Start->Shutdown doesn't have a hibernate option. Also, there is no Hibernate tab within the Power Options icon in the control panel. I'm running Windows 2000 server sp4 on a pretty new box- Epox 4PCA3+ motherboad so it's gotta be compliant along with ACPI. I can't for the life of me figure this out, nor find anything online. Any ideas?

In case you're wondering why I would want to hibernate the server is to go along with the UPS I got - it's not a SmartUps model...and when powerchute shuts down the server it causes the device to overload and completely shutdown, killing the pix and the modem so the laptop i have running serversalive can't send an e-mail to notify me of the outage.

thanks

have you got terminal services enabled on this box?

Yes. I tried disbaling that service and rebooting. When it came back term service and term service manager were both off and still no hibernate option.

I remember reading a document about this and one of the reasons was because ts was installed. When you say disabled I am presuming that you just went into services and changed the service to disabled.
Instead of that try uninstalling TS completely and see if that makes a difference. Also have you looked in the BIOS of the M/C to check any power settings that may be disabled. Always worth a look!!
