I'm asking for a friend here...

She's running win98SE..... has almost no programs, only 125 or so mp3s, has cleared all temp files but is still getting a no HD space error.... what could be causing this?

she mentioned that she has 3 [yes 3] windows folders, and two of them look similar... how'd that happen? can two of them be deleted safely??

I hope you can help me here, thanks in advance!!!

...to add a footnote:

the one windows folder is 1.13GB
the second is 128MB and the third is 0 bytes....

what gives?

Have you run Scandisk? Sometimes you get an error in reporting free space on the computer and Scandisk solves it. Run it from Safemode.

Also, do you have Norton System Works installed? This can cause problems with the recycle bin. You think something has been deleted but hasn't.

Look at the posting numbered 615-613048 and I was given some excellent advice. I removed my recycle bin and allowed Windows to recreate it and gained loads of space.

I have a fairly simple SE with 350 mb total in windows and subs. So your figures are suspect at the best. Or in the windows directory about 80 mb.

You can look in msdos.sys to see which one is the active one. (in root, SHR attributes)
