Hi there

We had a problem on Friday where our server almost ran out of memory, now this in turn knocked one of our exchange services out.

I managed to free up some memory & then had to mount two mailboxes( mailbox store(server) & public folder store (server)) to get our users connected to microsoft exchange!

I thought i had cracked it but I've came in to work this morning and we are not receiving any external e-mails.

I have sent maio internally and also sent mail to my yahoo account, but for some strange reason we are not getting any incoming mail!

We use one exchange server which runs windows server 2000, sbs 2000 & exchange 2000

Heres a few event IDs which have been generated

9548
9200
9175
8197

I've still not been able to reboot as we are always that busy on a monday morning.

Any more info needed please ask

Thanks very much

Steven

Check your inbound mail queues for any emails that are holding up the system. You can review them in OE if you want, but I'd take a look at the time the event began and look for an inbound email at that same, or about same, time, then delete it. Keep deleting one at a time and see if the mail begins to flow.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

In addition to Davetoo's excellent suggestion, have you double-checked to make sure that all of the essential Exchange services are running?

I can't recall all of them from memory, but some really crucial ones to check are:

Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes
Microsoft Exchange POP3
Microsoft Exchange Information Store
Microsoft Exchange MTA Stacks

With "busy" and "no external email" I'd say a restart is crucial! Just restart it or nothing flows. That will free up RAM and start services.

Oh and I don't see POP3 connector as crucial - that should only be used for short term migrations.

Tek Tips sends an email out to notify the member of activity in their threads. Maybe he didn't receive it? :)
