I recently upgraded an IP 500v2 from 7.0 to 8.1 and after the upgrade I got the error No Essential Edition license present. Anybody know how to resolve this problem? when they system was at 7.0 it was not in quick mode. It was in the essential edition mode. I thought about recreated the SD card but I think that will start up the system in quick mode.

Do you have the upgrade licence? If so you need to step through 8.0.44 or earlier and that will generate the essential edition licence, be aware it needs to be in IPO mode at all times and if the chassis goes faulty you lose the virtual licence along with the chassis as its tied to the physical chassis unlike all other licences :)

Yeah I have the upgrade license. So I can't just upgrade straight to 8.1 from 7.0? Avaya licensing sucks!!!

Going from R7 to R8.0.44 will create the virtual essential license. if you go straight from R7 to R8.1, the virtual license is not created and you will need to purchase an essential license.

You should be able to, but it doesn't always work. Avaya were so bothered about squeezing every penny out of customers that they completely fu@&ed up the essential edition licencing process where upgrades are concerned, it literally was a farce :)

That sucks....So in order to fix the problem I need to "upgrade" to 7.0 then to 8.0 then to 8.1?

You could talk to your disti and tell them to send you the essential license.

Or buy the licence :)
