I need some help here. This is the picture. I have a Windows 2000 server with some Windows 2000 Pro and some Windows 98 pc's connected to the server, however when the Windows 98 machines are trying to connect to the server I got the following message..."no domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources". I can ping the server with no problem, also I can see the Windows 2000 Pro machines. I have created an account on the AD, but no luck. Any ideas?. I will appreciate any help.

Is your Domain Controller emulation PDC role ?
Are you running WINS ? Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Are you using the pre-windows 2000 domain name to connect the 98 machines?

You may want to try using the Domain name without the .com or .org after it.

I am having the same problem on Windows ME clients and when I add the .local suffix to the Domain name I get an "Incorrect Password" message. It is probably the same issue. If I hear anything I will let you know.

Win 9x machines don't require and can't use computer accounts. You should be running the Directory Service Client on your Win 9x machines. Are you?

Ok. First it all, thanks to all you for your responses. To anwser some of your questions.
1.- I'm not running Wins.
2.- I have tried with Domain.com and without the .com.
3.- I have previously installed Directory Service Client on the Win 98 machines.
Any other ideas?. This issue is driving me nuts.

install WINS, let your clients use WINS, and it will run (as long as your domain controller is running PDC emulator) Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Just a suggestion. Try putting your DNS server Address manually in the TCPIP properties.

Win9x don't use DNS to find a domain controller... WINS should do the trick ! Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Have you looked in the server DHCP and can you see the w98 boxes? I had this problem and found that the mac address was not set right I had done the release renew but ended up changing the client to a workgroup after a reboot changed to domain again rebooted and it finally configured for the domain.

I don't know if it affects your issue but you shouldn't have computer accounts for the Win98 PCs, only Win 2000 ones.

Ok. I got my clients 98 machines connected to the server. I have installed NetBui over TCP/IP and that fixed the problem, now I have a new issue, for some reason they don't have Internet access. Ant ideas?

Thanks
