I am running Windows 2000 Server and every so often I recieve a message in my event log saying that there are no DNS servers set up for the local system. Could someone tell me why it does this and how I could fix it?
Thanks
Daniel

Like the message states, No local DNS. If you are running Win2k domain controllers then you will need a local DNS. Local DNS has several benefits including (1) Faster web access. (2) Reduce DNS traffic through your WAN link. Some companies do all their web resolution from an outside DNS source. I would suggest at a minimim setting up a DNS cache server. Thanks,
Danielle

Thanks but how do I tell DNS that it needs to service the local system as well?

Thanks
Daniel

Start>programs>admin tools>DNS server
If you dint see DNS there
goto Control panel >add/rem software>windows components> services>and add DNS
Then you can configure it.
