I have an ext that has no Dail Tone, but can call out and can receive calls. Can anyone tell me what this may be?

Is this just one user has no dialtone, and the other users have dial tone?

Check your short codes, and report back what they are. Include, system, user, LCR, user restriction, user rights, etc. short codes.

Look for a secondary dial tone short code specifically.

How can I do this easily. The user is in a different office. Do I have to use the Manager program in that office?

When the user dials out, it rings on the other end but can he hear/speak to the other person? If not it could be a problem with your punch down block... i've ran into this a few times.. they are using a split pair or something and the tech just punches it wrong only getting part punched properly... the end result is the ability to dial/make calls but not speak/hear dial tones, etc... However if they can it is probably the secondary dial tone.

Yes the user can dial out and talk to others.

Where is the secondary dial tone?

Sorry for the newbie questions, but how do I tell what software release we are at?

open up the manager software, pull the configuration, click on the control unit item on the left. The items listed under this category should show you the version number.

test pliugged staright into the IPO, test with more than one phone.

Well there a whole boat load of problems on this particular system....it doesn't make sense but unselecting "Local Tones" seemed to give the users phone a dail tone.

Where did you uncheck this "local tones" box? The only place I can find that box is under IP trunks.

Ok I also found it under IP phones extensions. If you read the help file it says:

When selected, the H.323 terminals generate their own tones. This option is not supported by Avaya IP phones and Phone Manager Pro PC Softphone.

And under the IP Trunk:

When selected, the tones are generated by the local IP Office system to which the phone is registered. This option should not be used with lines being used for Small Community Networking. For the IP Office Small Office Edition control unit, this field should not be enabled.

Oh Puckoff you spoilsport, I was getting impressed at how long this thread had gone without discussing what type of phones these were.

Yeah no kidding. I am waiting for the post "System does not work. What is wrong?

Sorry for not posting...got alot of other issues on the go.

The Local Tones was under extension and IP Lines select the VoIP tab.

This user was still having other problems...so I created a new ext from him and it seems to be working better. Like I said in one of the other posts...there is a whole boat load of problems on this system.
