Ok guys, my month for oddities. MICS, 6.1, 2 caller ID cards. Winstream T1, voice only, 7 telephone lines and 1 fax line. Over the weekend the fax quit working. Phone lines ok. Arrived at site an brought out the butt set. No dial tone on any line, including fax line. Lines still working on MICS. But, even with customer equipment pulled off, removed bridging clips, still had no dial tone. Had 38 or so VDC but no dial tone anywhere. I was using a Fluke TS52 Pro butt set. Concentrated on the fax line. Winstream moved it to three different channels and I still had no dial tone on any channel. They say they conditioned it for Fax. Could call fax, butt set rang, but could not answer. If I shorted line I could hear the other person and the other person could hear the short, but we could not talk, and dial tone in background. Winstream dispatched a tech and he said he could not find a problem. Fax now answering, before it would ring forever and not answer. I had reset the IAD and Fax, power cycled. Checked MICS and cards were loop start. If I shorted the lines with my butt set on, I got a momentary dial tone, but went away when short removed.
Just wondering if anyone had this problem before. Never had a problem getting a dial tone off a drop and insert type arrangement. IAD had separate T for data.
thanks
