I am unable to connect with either Hyperterminal or ASA to a Definity R6. I keep getting a "no carrier" message. I have tried it on two systems R6 and R8 with no luck. I have also changed from a DID to a 1fb. I am dialing from an Avaya 8700 CM 5.3. I have the analog station that I am dialing from set to XOIP modem. I have the modem type in ASA set to Hayes Optima and increased the login timeout to a sufficient number to allow the modem to negotiate and connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what login are you trying?
Try craft with manual login

Like Tier3 say's..set it up for "manual login"..sounds like to me it's in your modem setup. Try changing to just a plain ole Hayes nothing fancy and see what happens...it's probably the setup string messing you up, and R6/R8 don't need anything fancy for sure.

I have tried manual login and have selected "generic 9600 baud connection" as the device type. I get the same results.
"no carrier

If you dial the number from your phone do you get modem answer tone?

Kevin

Yeah...I'm thinking like Keven...either you don't have a connection at the R6 end or on your end...double check them both...s/v pair of the aux cable on the R6...dial tone? and correct number?
atdt? from your end.....
Something is missing........

Yes I get modem tone when dialing the number. I have a POTS line connected to the last pair of the aux cable.

Sounds like you can't connect to any system from your modem. That would indicate an issue on your end. Perhaps your analog station is not located in the same gateway as your PRI introducing a VOIP hop on your outbound modem connection.

Have you tried to go old school using terminal emulator instead of ASA?
