Hello -

I have a pc here that will not boot into safe mode or into regular windows 98. I get as far as the initial windows desktop wallpaper and then it freezes. I do have the ability to move the mouse and also bring up the task manager. What trouble shooting methods should i use. Is there any software that i can use to resolve this. I guess this user just started having theese problems after they installed the latest version of AOL. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Boot to Dos mode and try scanreg /restore.

Now that you're back in, you may want to run System File Checker. It's possible there may still be some issues. Start, Run, sfc

do you recommend i unistall aol and other software that isnt needed on this pc? or just run sfc and back up as soon as possible?

Personally, I'd backup first, then uninstall everything unneccesary, run sfc, then windows update.
