Hey Guys

We have a IP500 v6.0 connected via the LAN1 port (192.168.10.1) to a HP Pocurve Switch - Tagged port – VLAN10. (Switch ip = 192.168.10.254)
DHCP is provided via a Small Business Server 2k3 virtual box. ( 10.0.0.1).
Internet Information Server and Voicemail Pro v6.0 are all running on a virtual Windows 2008 box. (192.168.10.32) Same subnet as the IP500...
All the phones are brand new 1608 and 1616 models.

We have installed the Admin CD v6.0 on the Windows 2008 virtual box and can run Manager, System Status and Monitor without issue..... All good so far ?

When we plug a phone in on any of the Untagged switches we see the phone search for a DHCP server on the sub net 10.0.0.x. It receives the VLAN information and reboots. It then acquires all the correct IP information on the correct sub net 192.168.10.x.... It finds the new bin files on the root of IIs web server and upgrades the phones to the correct firmware version ha1608au1_2200.bin or ha1616au1_2200.bin depending on the model. It then finally comes to rest waiting for us to select the extension number... We thought we were really cooking at this point... ?

We have 36 Avaya IP Endpoint licences installed and we have created about 40 users and associated H323 extensions. The extensions start at 700 and work their way up to 791.
( There are obviously gaps in the numbering.)

Anyway, we logon to one phone using extension 700. The logon works fine. We have dial tone and no error messages. We then logoff the same phone and try to logon using extension 737. We now get told “No Available Licence” and the phone has no dial tone....????
This is the only phone connected to the network too...!

Tried the same exercise with another phone, same result...?

Tried several logons with the lower extension range and got up to extension 727 without any errors. Try past extension 727 and we get “No Available Licence”

What gives....????

I would have assumed we would need to have 36 phones connected before any licence issue raised its ugly head...?

Any thoughts most welcome

Cheers
Mike

Did you perhaps checked the option "reserve ip endpoint license" at the extension (in manager)

Hey tlpeter

Thanks for your reply.

Nope, all the extensions are configured the same and "Reserve Avaya IP endpoint licence" is not ticked.

We just have the default H232 extension settings for all extensions...
The only boxes ticked are "Out of Band DTFM" and "Allow Direct Media Path"

Thanks for the suggestion though

have you got CCR Agent ticked???

Football is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

Hey Jamie

Thanks for the reply.

Had no idea what a CCR Agent was but eventually found it under the Supervisor Settings. Alas nooooo, the box is not ticked for all users.

I'm going to delete all H232 extensions and start again. I've got a hunch once we get past 24 extensions it's going to generate the "No Licence Available" message

Cheers

What VCM? - you have a number of free Avaya IP endpoints depending on that.

The above would allow a number of IP phones to register even if your actual Avaya IP endpoint licenses were invalid (assume you've checked that).

Note that logging in is not the criteria for the license consumption, its the phone registering with the IP Office regardless of anyone being logged in or not.

Note also that uplugging a phone doesn't unregister it from the system for several minutes (between 3 to 5 usually).

Use monitor to view the status and number of registered IP phones.

Hey Tom and Sisbut

Yeah, it sounds like a licence issue/bug to me.
Have attached the System Status, Resource, Licence screen shot... Hopefully it will come out.
Looks like only one licence in use....?
Makes sense since there is only one phone connected.

If you have an expansion module connected to the system the small site software release 6 upgrade could cause this issue.

Sound like a small site license <= 32 users (SSA shows it too)
You have too many extensions connected to it.

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

i'm still sticking with my first suggestion. I've not tried but it would make sense that you are able to create users and extns above the 32 limit, they just won't work.

Who sold you that license if you are using more phones than that?

Get well soon Aaron.

Note: The small site upgrade license is only for use on single box IP500 systems and
has a limit of 32 extensions. Expansion modules are NOT SUPPORTED with this
license. This can be seen in SSA, see below:

Once the limit of 32 extensions is reached no further extensions will be permitted to
operate.
Extensions are allocated each time the system is re-booted and in the order of:
• TDM (analogue/digital) on Base Cards starting at the first (left most when
looking at the front)
• IP Extensions which are explicitly configured
• Any auto created IP extensions (including IP DECT). Once the limit is
reached auto create is disabled.
The Avaya IP Office Video Softphone will not count against the extension count and
is only permitted as long as the user has a base extension that is operational on the
system.

Hey Guys

Thanks for all your help.

You've knocked the nail on the head with that "Small Site Licence Upgrade"...

Our supplier is hopefully organising the correct licence upgrade as we speak.

Beers on me :)

All the best
Mike
