No Automatic update

I have laptops running xp sp3 with SEP 11 and they have scheduled updates to run every 12 hours. They are not used all the time so there maybe times when they dont get turned on for a few days. I noticed that when I do turn them on they dont automatically update. Live update works but I want them to be able to update whenever they are turned on.

Any Ideas?

Managed but since they are laptops and are out in the field they do not connect to the network very often hence the reason they need to connect to Symantecs servers to get the updates on schedules.

when they are connected to the network they pull the updates fine.
