This might be a dumb question, but for some reason, I just need to know.

For some reason, my autoexec.bat file disappeared. When I enter "path" in the DOS window, I get "C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND".

Where did this entry come from? Is it stored in the registry somewhere?

It is built in. You could try changing the location in MSDOS.SYS and see if that isn't the starting point.

It's put in by IO.SYS, I think -- and set that way during 98 Setup, It is just fine and exactly what you want to be able to run commands from the RUN box easily...and DOS sessions for that matter.
type SET to view the environment

and/or SET PATH and enter changes you'd like for PATH

or use/create new Autoexec.bat and add a PATH= statement
