I have sent an e mail to a friend with attachments using MS Outlook. The attachments were not with the e mail when he recieved it. I sent the same e mail using Outlook Express and the attachments were there.

What version of Outlook do you use? If you go to your Sent Items, and open the e-mail you sent, are the attachments there?

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

I have Outlook 2000. The attachments are still there on my sent e mail.

Try sending them again. Perhaps security settings were blocking them before. Any idea on the receive mail client?

I too have this issue. I send attachments to clients (pdf & word 2003 & others) and sometimes, they cant find them. Or, all they can see is a win.dat file attachment. Some of my clients are using Lotus notes and some are using a web based email service (like webmail). There seems to be no reason or pattern to this problem... however, it is real and it is getting in the way of doing business. Just the other day, I tried to send a pdf attachment and the client could not see a pdf attachment... just the win.dat attachment. I tried a Word 2003 attachment and it did not work either.

Winmail.dat attachments are caused when the receiving client can not interpret Outlook's Rich Text Format. This would basically be every e-mail client other than Outlook. Send your messages in HTML or Plain Text format instead of RTF and the problem will not happen.
