It seems like I have a database on my server that absolutely no one has access to. I've tried all my server.ids and everyone in management has tried as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm assuming you don't have access to the ACL either?

I seem to recall having the same problem once and I think I tried making a database copy. If you make the copy "local" instead of on the server, I think it will add the user to the ACL as manager. I don't think this will work if the ACL of the original specifies to maintain a consistent ACL over replicas but it's worth a try. Make sure when you make the new copy that you deselect the option to copy the ACL.

If you are able to access the ACL a couple of points might help here.

1. The server ID is not going to work if the server itself is not listed in the Access Control List and the proper user type is not specified. Make sure the server is in the ACL and the User Type is set to server.

2. Make sure any users or groups in the ACL have the correct user types. ie, an individual needs the "Person" user type etc.

Hope this helps

The most easy thing to do: copy the database to an R6 server using the OS, make sure you are the "full access administrator" and just open the database! Put the default on "manager" and then copy it back to your R5 server.

If you have no R6 server then you will have to try to open it as a local database or use some hack tool.

If you know the name of one of the people in the ACL but do not have the password anymore then there are some other easy tricks to get in. But I will wait with to explain that one untill we know your respons.

Hope this helps!

Well, I was finally able to get the database opened. I tried the R6 method mentioned above about using a full access admin to open the database, but that didn't work.

We eventually found someone who had editor rights to the db, so we were able to view the ACL. Apparently an ex-employee as well as the server (???) had manager rights. So I simply recreated the employee and I was able to reset the ACL, but why was I not able to access the db as the server?? Baffling.

Thanks for everyone's help. This forum I feel is one of the best ones out there.

... strange the the R6 method did not work...

Out of curiousity:
Did you activate the "Full access mode" in the Administration client menu and kept the Administration client open while opening the database?

If you do not do these 2 things you can not open the database even if your ID is listed in the "Full access adminstrators" field in the server document.
