I am setting up a new Dell 600SC server w/SCO Unix 5.0.7. It has 256MB Ram, 40GB IDE, Adaptec 39160 SCSI card, Sony DDS 4 tape drive and 3 Com Network card 3C905CX-TX-M. I have two identical boxes running 5.0.6 with no issues but this box is giving me a k_Trap unexpected NMI in system mode notice. This occurs with just the OS running as the server is not being used yet. The OS install is the default. Since first notice it was rebooted, Apache and all dependent items were removed using custom, and it ran ok for 3 days before second notice. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce

Only reference to 'k_trap' and 'nmi' I can find is related to the BIOS of an aloder IBM system.

You could check BIOS versions, flash to latest version. I'm betting on memory, though. Remove the memory and reseat it, if you have a tester, test it.

Thanks for the response. I tried reseating the single chip. I ran memory tests in a loop for 2 hours with no problems. Rebooted Unix and had an error message in less than an hour. Unix has now run an additional 20 hours with no errors. I see Caldera is allowing 5.0.6 to be shipped again, does this mean lots of people are having issues in 5.0.7?

I'm not sure if there are many issues. I've seen a few quircks on compaq/hp branded hardware, but other than that, zoot.

Without checking the Dell page about the 600C, is it by chance a Xeon processor?

Try to disable the integrated NIC in the BIOS as you probably don't have the IntelPro1000 driver for OpenServer.
Try also to disable the USB support in the BIOS if you don't use it.

Hope This Help
PH.

Thanks again for the tips. I had the server run for almost 5 days with no errors and then this goofy error popped up again. I took the system down and rebooted only to get the error again in about 2 hours. I had already disabled the onboard NIC and USB in the Bios. I have no evidence of anything this error is doing except that it is a concern.

I guess I'll see if I can fall back to 5.0.6 now that it is an option again. Bruce
