We have recently upgraded to Notes 5.0.12 servers running on a single IBM iSeries server running OS400 5.1 and are in the process of rolling out a desktop upgrade to Windows XP with Notes client 5.0.11.
Several users are reporting the above problem and need to reboot their machines in order to reload notes.
Has anyone heard of this problem before?
Please don't tell me R6 is the answer.

R6 is the answer. Only joking!
Did you try the R5.12 client to see if it has the same problem?
It might be a problem with the R5.11 release.

On the other hand I think it might be a problem with some other software on the client machine.

Personally I had Notes clients running R5.07 and R5.11 on Windows XP for several months. I almost never had a crash like this.
Now I am runing on R6.0 and I experience a crash now and then, but ususally only when designing.

So my advice: Try a new XP machine and install only the Notes client. See how it behaves. Then add your other software one by one so you can determine if there is a conflict.

Also look at the IBM/Lotus support site to look for advice on this. Big change they will list something about it.

Also make sure your XP machines have enough memory! I still see companies installing XP on machines with only 128MB to save money. The result is not only a very slow machine but also a lot of problems.

I don’t have a solution for your problem however it’s not necessary to restart the computer when Notes crashes. Do a Ctrl - Alt – Delete (Task Manager – Process in WinXP) and end the following processes, naldaemn.exe, nhldaemn.exe and nlnotes.exe, it should be noted that depending on the error the caused Notes to crash all of these may not be running. After doing this you can reload Notes.

Also try to install the SP1 of XP! Here I saw some problems like this, and solve applying this SP.
