I can't seem to find this information in the manuals....

Do you know the max cable distance from NIU to DS1 card?

Thanks,

Wildcard

When you add your DS1 card you can change the distance if there is a problem. Look in your manual under add DS! then look at Line Compensation. There are setting on the DS1/CSU settings. I've extended mine several hundred feet and have not changed settings. What kind of distance are you talking?

Valid for Line Compensation
entries Usage
1 Length: 000–133 (ft), 000-40.5 (m)
2 Length: 133–266 (ft), 40.5–81.0 (m)
3 Length: 266–399 (ft), 81.0–122 (m)
4 Length: 399–533 (ft), 122–163 (m)
5 Length: 533–655 (ft), 163–200 (m)

Whew.... well there was talk that it was 750ft away....

Given the line compensation values, it seems that 655 ft is the max. Would you agree?

Thanks,

Wildcard

I have read that the distance from the csu to the niu should not be longer than 655 ft.

I would try it and then adjust the Line Compensation as needed. I have extended T1's all over our campus with having any problems.

A lot depends on the condition of the lines too. I have 3 E-1's running over 1200' with no LBO. YMMV.

I have a few PRI's running over 1500' from d-marc. Then i have had them around 500' that would never come up. It depends on the NIU. If it is a powered smartjack then it is really a repeater and can go alittle further. If is is just a RJ48x then maybe not as far.
