Hey gurus,

One question I have on NIS,

When I login to an NIS account at a client workstation,
I like my home directory to be mounted on /home instead
of /export/home, what do I need to change to have this done?

I had changed the configuration in /etc/auto_master
to point it to /export/home. But when I login, its
still cannot mount to /home .....

What else do I need to do?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Not clear with as to what is the mount point in your auto_master.Anyway check your /etc/nsswitch.conf file to check the preference of your search for the map file. If it is NIS then check out your auto_master for the mount option of your home dir.

Hope I am clear..and it helps.

Hi,

I must have confused everybody in my initial question as I
made a mistake in my writing, sorry.

My intend was to have the NIS mount at /export/home instead
of the default /home. I've changed the /etc/auto_master to as
below

###
+auto_master
/net -hosts -nosuid,nobrowse
/export/home auto_home -nobrowse
/xfn -xfn
###

and my /etc/nsswitch.conf is as below

#
# /etc/nsswitch.nis:
#
# An example file that could be copied over to /etc/nsswitch.conf; it
# uses NIS (YP) in conjunction with files.
#
# "hosts:" and "services:" in this file are used only if the
# /etc/netconfig file has a "-" for nametoaddr_libs of "inet" transports.

# the following two lines obviate the "+" entry in /etc/passwd and /etc/group.
passwd: files nis
group: files nis

# consult /etc "files" only if nis is down.
hosts: xfn nis dns [NOTFOUND=return] files
networks: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
protocols: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
rpc: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
ethers: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
netmasks: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
bootparams: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
publickey: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files

netgroup: nis

automount: files nis
aliases: files nis

# for efficient getservbyname() avoid nis
services: files nis
sendmailvars: files
###

but when I tried to login to an NIS account, it gave the error message

No directory! Logging in with home=/

Do I need to change any other files or have I changed the wrong file.
Thanks a lot for your advice.
